TAKING A STAND

The winds of change are upon us. The face of the island is being forever altered by over-development, and our infrastructure and resources are stretched to their limits. The best qualities of Maui - from the natural beauty to the unique culture - are being slowly pushed out and destroyed, and I am tired of it.

I am tired of seeing development after development (full of homes that most of us can never afford) cover the mountainsides. I am tired of seeing mom and pop stores dissapear only to be replaced by big-box superstores. I am tired of seeing big businesses and developers treat Maui with complete disregard, and I am tired of our elected officials letting them do it. I am tired of the traffic and the pollution. I am tired of watching the best qualities of our island slowly disappear.

The time for action is NOW. The time to stand up and fight for Maui is NOW. The future of the island rests in our hands, and if we don't do something Maui will continue being sold off to the highest bidder.

There are a large number of organizations already taking a stand, including groups like Maui Tomorrow and the Save Honolua Coalition. I ask you to join with them. Educate yourself on the controversial issues of today, find the ones that matter most to you, and make your voice heard. Only together, when we speak with one voice as the people of Maui, can we reclaim control over the future of this island.

THE IMPACT MAUI WEBSITE

Different organizations have websites or other ways of getting information out, but keeping track of everything can get confusing. ImpactMaui.org is here to make things just a little easier.

This is your one-stop site to get educated, get organized, and keep up-to-date on the issues affecting our island. Use the menu above to read about the issues, find out what you can do to make a difference, and link to the websites of other community based organizations.
