dedicated to the preservation of the Honolua Bay area
on the westside of Maui. In their effort to protect
Honolua from development, the Save Honolua Coalition
has become one of the most visible non-profits on
the island. |

Sierra
Club is a national environmental protection organization.
On Maui, the Sierra Club is dedicated to issues which
include the Superferry, cruise ships, Makena overdevelopment,
Kahoolawe restoration, coastline protection, and many
more. |

Maui
Tomorrow
mission is to protect Maui's natural areas and open
space, to promote the concept of ecologically sound
development, to preserve the opportunity for a rural
lifestyle on Maui, to support educational and community
programs, and to carry out litigation as necessary
to advance the foregoing purposes. |

Habitat
for Humanity
a community organization, works in partnership with
people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable
housing. The houses then are sold to those in need
at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers
provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate
donors provide money and materials to build Habitat
houses. |

Save
Makena
is dedicated to preserving the wild open spaces, beaches,
reefs, Hawaiian cultural sites and native dryland
forest in the Makena/Honuaula area for future generations.
Their focus issues are the Wailea 670/Honuaula and
the Makena Resort developments. |

The
Maui
Fishpond Association is dedicated to the revitalization
of the Ko`ie`ie fishpond in Kihei. They also provide
programs for schools and special groups to educate
Hawaii's keiki about fishponds and the environment. |

KAHEA
is a network of activists throughout the five main
Hawaiian Islands. They work with citizens organizing
to protect sensitive shorelines and culturally significant
sites from inappropriate development and to prevent
the conversion of agricultural lands to gated communities,
golf courses, and malls. They also work to protect
Hawai‘i's threatened biodiversity and endangered
species. |

Surfrider Foundation is a grassroots, non-profit,
environmental organization that works to protect
our oceans, waves, and beaches.

The
East
Maui Watershed Partnership (EMWP) is an environmental
effort between federal, state and private landowners
to preserve the native forest. Their mission is to
ensure that Maui's residents have a clean source of
water for domestic, commercial and agricultural uses
for this and future generations. |

When
government agencies or private interests violate or
fail to enforce environmental laws, EarthJustice
attorneys, representing citizen groups, scientists,
and others, go to court to see that the laws are obeyed
and enforced. On Maui, Earthjustice is focused on
restoring
stream flow to the Waihe`e, North & South
Waiehu, `Iao, and Waikapu Streams. |

Kokua
Hawaii Foundation is a non-profit organization
that supports environmental education in the schools
and communities of Hawai'i. It's mission is to enhance
students appreciation for and understanding of their
environment so that they will be lifelong stewards
